Short answer

Mercado Libre operates 17 marketplaces reachable by this Actor, each with its own site id from MLA (Argentina) to MPA (Panamá), and they do not behave alike. The same `iphone` query returns 6,372 results in Mexico, 5,305 in Colombia, 436 in Venezuela and 26 in Panama. Nine of the seventeen have catalog product pages and installments; the other eight have neither, and in those one page is the entire result set with nothing to paginate. Six — Uruguay, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Panama — mix the local currency and US dollars on the same results page. Brazil (MLB) and Cuba (MCU) are refused rather than supported.

Key points

  • Seventeen marketplaces are supported, identified by site id from MLA (Argentina) through MPA (Panamá), each with its own currency.
  • The same `iphone` query returned 6,372 results in Mexico and 26 in Panama, a spread of more than two orders of magnitude between the largest and smallest markets.
  • Nine marketplaces have catalog product pages and installments, and eight have neither, which changes what a listing row can contain before anything is scraped.
  • Six marketplaces show local and US dollar prices on the same results page, which is why currency belongs to the row rather than to the country.
  • Brazil (MLB) and Cuba (MCU) are refused by the Actor with an error rather than accepted and partially served.

Two different marketplaces in one platform

The large markets return thousands of results per query and use catalog product pages. The small ones return dozens, have no catalog pages, and one page is the entire result set — there is nothing to paginate at all. The Actor requests a next page only when the previous one came back full, so a query in Panama costs exactly one page load rather than a sequence of empty ones.

The six that mix currencies

Uruguay, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Panama put local-currency and US$ prices in the same results page. That is why currency belongs to the row and a per-country column is quietly wrong in six of seventeen markets.

The two that are refused

Brazil (MLB) and Cuba (MCU) are not in the table because the Actor refuses them with an error. Brazil is out until there is a documented LGPD basis; Cuba is unreviewed and its proxy route is unverified. A refusal in code is a different commitment from a warning in a README.

Using the table to plan a run

Read the results column first. In a market returning tens of results, pagination and category slicing buy nothing and one page is the whole job. In a market returning thousands, the ceiling of roughly 2,000 items per query is the binding constraint and the run needs planning around it.

Frequently asked questions

Which Mercado Libre countries can I scrape?
Seventeen: Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama. Brazil and Cuba are refused rather than supported.
Why does Panama return so few results?
Because the marketplace is genuinely that small. An `iphone` query returned 26 results there against 6,372 in Mexico, and in a market that size one page is the whole result set, so there is nothing to paginate and a query costs exactly one page load.
Which marketplaces have catalog pages?
Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Uruguay, Peru and Ecuador have catalog product pages and installments. Venezuela, Bolivia, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Panama have neither.

API alternative

The official Mercado Libre API requires OAuth and returns 403 to an anonymous request. A comparison of what the API gives an authorised caller, what scraping gives anyone, and which fields exist in only one of the two.

item_id and link shapes

Mercado Libre results mix `articulo.…/MLA-…`, `/p/MLA…` and `/up/MLAU…` links. Deriving the item id from the URL looks fine until the third shape appears, which can be nearly half a page.
